To
all parade participants. This is the INFORMATION
PACKET for the 2008 Fourth of
July Parade. Please read it carefully and share
this information with everyone in your group
that
needs to know.
There
are 4 divisions in the parade. Each division
has approximately 20 entries. You can find your
division number and entry number by clicking
on the PARADE LINE-UP button at the top of
this page. Note however that the division and
entry numbers are not assigned until a week
or two prior to the parade. So please return
to this website in late June to learn your
position in the parade. At that time please
make a note of your division number and your
entry
number. This will facilitate
a smooth check-in and assembly process on the
morning
of the parade.
Our
parade begins promptly at 9:30 in the morning.
To achieve this timely step-off, we line
up all the entries into the proper order in the
assembly area prior to
the parade start. This ensures a smooth and prompt
start-up. To assist us in organizing the
entrants in the correct order, please
arrive at the check-in station during the following
time slot:
Division
1: 08:00 - 08:20
Division
2: 08:20 - 08:40

3: 08:45 - 09:05

Directions
to the Assembly Area: The parade assembly area is
on the Cleaveland/Woodsworth curve (see MAP).
You can enter this area only from Gregory Lane traveling
east. Because of street closures there will be no
access from Contra Costa Blvd.
Starting
at 7:30 a.m. portions of Gregory Lane, Woodsworth,
Crescent Drive, Crescent Plaza and Boyd will be
closed. Therefore, please refer to this
map to find the route that works best for you (as
well as any other vehicles that will be joining
you). Remember, the only approach to the assembly
area is from EASTBOUND GREGORY LANE.
Checking-In:
One person from each entry must check in at
the
corner of Gregory & Cleaveland. This
is the entry to the assembly area. At the check-in
station you will receive a number placard which
must be attached to the front of your entry (first
vehicle, front person, etc.) so that it can be
seen by the parade officials and our announcer.
Assembly:
After checking-in, you will be directed to the right
or left side of the street, Please proceed slowly
and watch for your place in line. Division signs
will be posted and parade officials will be on hand
to assist you. Click HERE
for a map of the assembly area. You might find it
helpful to print this map and bring along a copy
when you come to the assembly area.
- If
you are driving a vehicle that will be in the
parade, simply check in and proceed to your place
in line.
- If
you are a driver for another passenger(s) in the
parade, please check-in, go to your place in line,
and wait for your passenger(s) to find you.
- If
you are dropping off people who are walking or
riding in the parade, please do this outside the
assembly area. There is NO EXIT from the assembly
area until the parade is over.
The
parade begins promptly at 9:30 a.m. from the
corner of Contra Costa Blvd. and Woodsworth.
Each
division
will be moved forward when it is time to go.
Performance
routines are welcomed all along the route,
but must
keep moving in a forward direction, keeping an
even space between units. As
your unit approaches the review stand on
Crescent Drive, our announcer
will read the script that you have prepared.
Near
the end, a parade official will collect your number
placard and give you a certificate of participation.
When
you reach the end at Boyd and Cleaveland, all riders
in or on open vehicles will be required to get off
and walk on the sidewalk. If you are returning to
the park, be extra careful as this area is open
to general traffic. Police will be present to assist
in this area.
If
you are leaving the area entirely, you may proceed
westbound on Boyd or turn southbound onto Cleaveland.
Do
not stop in or block the intersection.
Picnic:
You are cordially invited to come to our annual
PARTY IN THE PARK immediately after the parade
for food, games, and entertainment.
Activities
at the park will include band concerts, games,
contests,
swimming, food, and plenty of old-fashion fun
for kids and grown-ups alike.
The
fireworks display will be at dusk (approximately
9:15
p.m.) at the College Park High School field. Food
and beverages will be available.
Thank
you for participating in this year's parade.
Have
a wonderful and safe fourth.
IMPORTANT: Please
remember, there must be no throwing of candy
or gifts from any
vehicle
in the parade. If you wish to hand out candy
or gifts, arrange to have someone walk alongside
your
entry, at the curb, giving them away. If you
have
any questions or concerns about these instructions,
please do not hesitate to call me at 934-1873.
